Caregiver Bags

What are Caregiver Bags?
Caregiver bags are basically "Storytime in a Bag"! These theme bags are geared toward any caregiver working with a child in preschool through first grade. Each bag is built around a specific theme. For example: colors, shapes,
numbers, etc. These themes are selected to introduce
important concepts of early childhood learning.
The bag may contain any of the following; 4-5 books
on the theme, a fingerplay, an activity, or a flannel
board story. Each bag includes easy to follow
suggestions that will provide a catalyst for
incorporating reading activities. Mouse over the categories below to see the caregiver bags in that topic.

Objects, People, and Places
Why are they important?
These bags will enhance early reading skills. Through a
variety of techniques, children will receive needed
interaction to prepare for learning to read. Enjoyable, game-like reading experiences
lead to an increased desire to read.
Who are they for?
Parents, adult caregivers, grandparents, childcare
workers, and early educators can borrow these bags for
use in the home,
classrooms, or other
child-care environments.
Where can you find them?
Each branch of the Pickens County Library System has a selection of Caregiver Bags
available to be checked out. Look for them in the children's area of any branch location.
Bags may be checked out on an adult's library card for 2 weeks. If you need help or
have questions, ask any library staff member.
