U. S. IMPACT Library Survey

The Pickens County Library System is participating in a nationwide study to find out how people use the free computers and Internet connections in public libraries. This information will be used to improve these services and to inform policy makers about how best to fund and support them. In these hard economic times, this information will be invaluable. The survey is completely anonymous and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

The U.S. IMPACT web survey is being conducted by the University of Washington Information School with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. For more information, please visit the U.S. IMPACT Study Web Site.

Dr. David E. Peek
1890-1942

In 1925, Dr. Peek opened the first Pickens County hospital, in Six Mile. He operated the hospital and a training school for nurses, until his untimely death in 1942 from a stroke.

This is one image which can be viewed in the library's historical photo collection. To see more, click the Flickr link to access our historical photo website.

Do you have any old (or even not-so-old) photographs of Pickens County people or places? We would like to take a look and consider them for our collection. Generally, we are looking for pre-1980 photos of schools, churches, historic homes, prominent persons, public events and commercial and government buildings. You do NOT have to donate your photos. We can return them after they have been scanned. Also, any information about the photo is especially helpful. We have several unidentified photos in our Flickr collection, so play detective with us!
